Robert Edward Huggins, also known as Bob Huggins, was born on September 21, 1953, in Morgantown, West Virginia, U.S. to Charlie Huggins, a well-known basketball coach of his time, and Norma Huggins. Bob is nicknamed “Huggy Bear” and has six siblings named Linda Huggins, Harry Huggins, Deborah Huggins, Larry Huggins, Judy Huggins, and Karen Huggins.
Bob moved to Port Washington, Ohio, with his family. He & his brothers played basketball for his father, Charles, at Indian Valley South High School.
